TUSCALOOSA COUNTY SCHOOLS WILL UPGRADE TECHNOLOGY WITH ADDITIONAL FUNDING

Tuscaloosa County School System

The state of Alabama will have a bigger education budget in 2019 and the Tuscaloosa County School System plans on benefitting from the increased funds.

TCSS expects to receive an additional $4.9 million from the state in the next year and they plan on using about $3.5 million of that money to upgrade technology across the school system. Upgrades will be completed based on a school’s individual needs but upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 is a top priority. The system also wants to replace some of its PC computers with Apple computers.

“We will be moving a lot of our platforms to the apple products because we’ve got a lot more stability and success with those the great majority is based on school input as well as our computer techs who have been out at schools working with them and trying to see where our needs are,” TCSS Superintendent Dr. Walter Davie said.

The remaining $1.4 million of the additional funds from the state will be used on maintenance, according to Davie.
