This airport worker has just what you need before a long flight, a way to put a smile on your face.

Steve Freitag has shared the hilarious messages he posted on airport departure boards to keep his passengers entertained.

The boarding gate employee, who works for Virgin America, shared his pictures on Imgur of journey inspired movie quotes.

Mr Freitag can also be seen in fancy dress in a number of the images including as a "hipster Santa" for Halloween and dressing up in pajamas by mistake.

Speaking from his Imgur account he said the posts were to amuse guests but would most likely be stopping due to a airline company taking over.

"As a Virgin America employee, I'm encouraged to always put 'something' up on our gate signs, if there's no weather delays or other important info to display.

"Sometimes we just try to amuse our guests - frequently with humor influenced by Imgur.

"[Our] new owner Alaska Airlines isn't really known for a cheeky corporate culture, so signs like these are most likely going away.@

On one board the airport worker references Harry Potter as he says: "Have a good flight, muggles."

Mr Freitag commented that they thought this sign would be "hilarious" for passengers

During Back to the Future Day on October 21 he wrote the appropriate Doc Brown quote: "Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads."

After the sudden death of David Bowie he decided to quote the iconic singer saying: "The truth is of course is that there is no journey.

His reference to the Benny Hill theme song followed a day of "passengers hurriedly running back and forth".

Some were said to be alarmed by a message from computer history, a welcome greeting from Windows 95 - but it was just a message from Steve.

Classic rock quotes were also used by the bearded boarding gate worker who used a Kansas classic to advise Virgin passengers.
