WWE No Mercy 2017: Dream Scenarios for Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Top Stars

WWE No Mercy is coming on Sunday, and fans are going in with some mixed feelings.

Much of that apprehension centers on the showdown between John Cena and Roman Reigns. The company is booking this one as a marquee matchup, and indeed it is. But that's because of who the guys are to WWE, not because of what the audience wants to see.

A good number of the fans want nothing to do with this match.

Then there's Brock Lesnar versus Braun Strowman, a feud in which The Monster Among Men has laid waste to The Beast Incarnate at every turn. Many believe this is Strowman's time to shine and that he will become the new universal champion.

But the fact Lesnar has no momentum going in means WWE will likely book the opposite outcome.

However, even though much of No Mercy is up for debate and there seems to be no clear-cut direction, fans still have a reason to be excited. Raw's top Superstars will be on hand, and anything could happen when the curtain goes up on Sunday night.

WWE could come through and give the audience what it wants, leaving them wanting more. Or it could be just another painfully predictable night.

Fans know what they want. If they get it, No Mercy will be an event to remember.

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose Retain the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships

1 of 4

Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose's mini Shield reunion has been nothing short of magic.

While it's not the trio that once invaded WWE, it doesn't have to be. Judging from the reaction Rollins and Ambrose gets every time they hit the ramp, it looks as though they don't need Roman Reigns in the mix to make it work.

The recently crowned Raw tag team champions are doing just fine without him. That's why fans want to see their ride continue.

Cesaro and Sheamus are stepping up to attempt to regain their titles, and the champs will fight hard to keep that from happening. Though the team known as The Bar is comprised of heels, fans do have a healthy respect for them.

Sheamus and Cesaro have proved themselves as a duo and have earned that appreciation.

But there will be other opportunities for them to become champions once again. Rollins and Ambrose just got restarted, and their supporters do not want to see them stop now. They don't necessarily need the tag team titles to get over, but winning is always a good thing.

Fans want to see them win at No Mercy.

Ambrose and Rollins are becoming quite the cohesive tandem in the ring, which has legitimized their championship run. It would indeed be a shame to see that end on Sunday.

Asuka Interrupts the Raw Women's Championship Fatal 5-Way Match

When it comes to women's wrestling in WWE, there's Asuka and there's everyone else.

The undefeated Japanese Superstar has brought a new level of legitimacy to a division that was already heavily respected. Had Asuka come in at another time, she perhaps would not be the megastar she is. But she is definitely the right Superstar for the right era.

She will soon be the right Superstar on the red brand.

Asuka is coming to Monday Night Raw. The longest-reigning NXT women's champ is on the shelf with an injured collarbone, but she will be on WWE's flagship program when she returns. What better night to make her presence known than at No Mercy?

The Empress of Tomorrow doesn't have to get physically involved in the Fatal 5-Way match between Alexa Bliss, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Nia Jax and Emma. She doesn't even have to say a word. All she has to do is show up either during or after the contest.

Seeing her on the stage as her music plays could be enough for the fans who can't wait to see her on Monday nights.

Her appearance could perhaps cause a title change because it leads to a distraction in the ring, which would be a good thing too. That would set up a new rivalry for her and the woman who leaves No Mercy with the Raw Women's Championship.

That Superstar may not have the belt for long.

John Cena Defeats Roman Reigns

3 of 4

This one could be referred to as "the dream match no one wanted." That's how little fans think of Reigns versus Cena.

Both guys have done their best to talk fans into the building at No Mercy. Cena has cut his usual promos in which he questions his opponent's heart as he reminds the world no one works harder than he does. Reigns has cursed like a stand-up comic working blue while telling everyone listening that Cena is just all talk.

None of this has built all that much anticipation among fans. They may be intrigued thanks to the war of words, but it's still a tough sell for WWE.

However, if there must be winner, if fans have to choose the lesser of two evils, they would likely opt for Cena over Reigns. The Big Dog is so hated among the WWE faithful that just the thought of him beating yet another legend is enough to make them turn off WWE Network.

If the company goes the way of past booking, then Cena versus Reigns will not be over after Sunday. That means Reigns will have a chance to rebound, which everyone knows he will do. He is the top guy after all.

At the very least, he would get taken down a notch with a loss at No Mercy. That is just the fan perception of the situation. The truth is Reigns will go along with whatever plan is laid before him because he is a team player. The same is true of Cena.

But fans can dream, can't they?

Braun Strowman Defeats Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship

4 of 4

Brock Lesnar has zero momentum heading into No Mercy. Nada. So that means he's retaining the WWE Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. Right?

WWE loves the swerve, and that's always been the case. Just when fans think the company is going right, it changes gears and goes left. It appears as though Strowman has Lesnar's number, so doesn't that mean The Monster Among Men will be the new champ?

Or does it mean Lesnar will shake off every power move Strowman throws and then leave him for dead in the ring?

Fans may respect Lesnar, but they want Strowman to get the win. The Monster Among Men is just so comfortable and confident when it comes to his attitude. While Samoa Joe was the picture of simmering rage in his feud with The Beast, Strowman has been relaxed the whole way.

For Strowman, beating Lesnar is a foregone conclusion. Why get anxious about it?

So considering that Strowman appears to be in control, why not see it though until the end? A win over Lesnar at No Mercy would legitimize Strowman's main event run. Beating The Beast Incarnate is not something many WWE Superstars can boast about having done.

Strowman is the future, and Lesnar will eventually be the past. Why not move on and make it happen for the next big thing? That's a dream scenario many fans could get behind.
