Billionaire and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates feels sorry for making the Control-Alt-Delete function, used to start up Windows on computers. Gates, while revealing his dislike of the command, said if he could go back and change anything about the software that made him a multi-billionaire it would be to add the ability to perform the command using only a single key, according to International Business Times. “The IBM PC hardware keyboard only had one way that it could get a guaranteed interrupt generated. Clearly the people involved should have put another key on in order to make that work,” Gates told CNN. “If I can make one small edit I’d make that a single key operation,” he added. Gates was at a panel discussion of Bloomberg Global Business Forum in New York City. He blamed IBM for this issue in the year 2013. “We could have had a single button, but the guy who did the IBM keyboard design didn’t want to give us our single button,” Gates said then, according to CNN.

The famous combination of keys in computers are used to reboot computers that have crashed. Interestingly, popular culture in IT industry has adopted the phrase — Control-Alt-Delete–as a way to ‘get rid of something’.

Earlier, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has said great progress has been made since 1990 in alleviating global poverty, but much remains to be done. These goals, to be reached by 2030, include eliminating poverty and hunger, providing clean water and affordable energy, and fighting gender inequalities and climate change. “We’re trying to document the incredible progress” made around the world “including on key things like poverty and different disease areas,” Bill Gates said in a statement, as per AFP.
